Frequently Asked Questions

How do I become a member?

If you are a counsellor in a post secondary institution and your institution has paid the annual AECAA fee, you are a member of the Association. To check your status, please contact Jeff Vander Werf (jpvander@ucalgary.ca). If your institution is a member and you are a new counsellor at your institution, you will need to contact the webmaster (Nathalie.Mercier@norquest.ca) to have your name officially registered on the AECAA Blackboard Site and on the listserve.

What can AECAA do for me as a professional?

  • Connecting and exchanging ideas with other counsellors working in Alberta post-secondary institutions
  • Sharing best practices with colleagues working in the same field through professional development opportunities, a listserve, and the website blackboard
  • Discussing and contributing to unity on issues related to counselling centres in post-secondary institutions
  • Access to the ever-growing and changing website housing current information and resources
  • Offering of an annual Professional Development Day hosted by different institutions each year on topics relevant to existing trends
  • Annual General Meeting hosted at the Alberta Services for Students Conference held in May of each year
  • Volunteer opportunities with the AECAA Executive and/or with activities offered throughout the year
